Children & Youth
Children and youth are an important part of our church family. Through Sunday School, Confirmation, Friends in Faith, and Youth Ministry, young people are invited to learn the stories of Scripture, ask questions, build friendships, serve others, and grow in God’s love.
At Our Savior’s and Skogdalen Lutheran Churches, we seek to nurture faith in ways that are welcoming, engaging, and meaningful for each age and stage. Together, we help children and youth discover what it means to follow Jesus in daily life and to share God’s love with the world.
Sunday School
Sunday School is an important part of our Christian Education ministry, helping children grow in faith, learn the stories of the Bible, and discover God’s love in their daily lives.
Sunday School is provided for children in 5K through 6th grade and meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am. Classes are held from September through May.
During Sunday School, children explore Bible stories, learn about worship and prayer, sing songs, and take part in activities that help connect faith with everyday life. It is a time for children to ask questions, build friendships, and grow together as part of the church community.
Confirmation
Affirmation of Baptism is used at various times in the life of a baptized Christian. It is especially meaningful for youth and adults as they continue to grow in faith and claim the promises made in baptism.
Confirmation is one part of this lifelong faith journey. It is typically offered for 7th and 8th graders and is a two-year program that meets from September through May. During this time, students explore the Bible, Lutheran history, Luther’s Small Catechism, and the Sacraments.
Confirmation also includes service projects, worship participation, and interactive activities that help students connect what they are learning with daily life, the church, and the wider community. At the completion of their Confirmation studies, students are invited to affirm their baptism and continue growing as disciples of Jesus.
Youth Ministry
Youth Ministry is a growing part of our life together as a church. It offers youth opportunities to grow in faith, build friendships, and discover the joy of serving God by serving our community.
Through service projects, fellowship, worship, and faith-forming activities, youth are invited to explore what it means to follow Jesus in daily life. These experiences help young people use their gifts, care for their neighbors, and deepen their connection to the church.
We are currently building our youth ministry and looking ahead to the ELCA Youth Gathering in 2027 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This gathering will be an exciting opportunity for youth to worship, serve, learn, and connect with other young people from across the church.
Friends in Faith
Westby Coon Prairie, Our Savior’s, Skogdalen, and Vang Churches join together to offer Friends in Faith, an after-school faith formation program for children in kindergarten through 6th grade.
Friends in Faith meets on Wednesdays after school and includes a light snack, music, brief worship, and class time. Each week, children explore a story from the Bible and take part in a game, craft, or interactive activity that helps bring the story to life.
